With the rise of the grunge genre more and more heavy metal bands backed out of the scene but not Steel Panther. They keep on playing their music, quote lead singer Michael Starr: "We kept on proudly wearing spandex." Surviving by performing cover songs by Guns N'Roses and Mötley Crüe - But nevertheless they were successful and soon decided to write their own songs.
Band history: Steel Panther
With weekly shows in the legendary Viper Room (which used to be owned by Johnny Depp), where they played covers of 80ies hair metal songs, it was then that they began building their fan base. In 2002 their first song, 'Love Rocket', followed one year later by their self produced record HOLE PATROL - Back then under the name Metal Shop. Believe it or not the band changed their name THREE times within their career: From starting out as Metal Shop in the early 2000s, performing as Metal Skool a little later, then changing to Danger Kitty - Back in April 2008 they finally settled on what we know them as now Steel Panther. Signing with Universal Records the same year, the band released their label debut After FEEL THE STEEL in 2009 - Shortly followed by BALLS OUT (2011) and ALL YOU CAN EAT (2014) followed LOWER THE BAR in the spring of 2017.
