Darkthrone, founded in 1986, undoubtedly ranks among the most important and well-known representatives of Norwegian Black Metal, alongside Mayhem and Immortal, even though they have dared countless style changes and musical experiments throughout their existence. Influenced by the universally acclaimed Bathory and Venom, they created their own version of music, charged with the typical aesthetics of Scandinavian Black Metal. To embrace this aesthetic and feel at home in the community, you can stock up on Darkthrone merchandise and vinyls on this page. The iconic black-and-white visual style of black metal is, of course, a must!
The true milestones that shaped an entire genre were released by the band between 1992 and 1995. The development towards the Black Metal that we know from Darkthrone today happened with their second album, A Blaze In The Northern Sky. Above all, they infused their music with an unmistakable atmosphere and continued to experiment over the years. To this day, their creative openness extends to Crust, Thrash and Speed Metal, as well as the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
An important factor for their cult status and popularity is primarily that the Norwegian duo does not take themselves too seriously. Nevertheless, they are still considered authorities in the original sense of the word. Drummer Gylve "Fenriz" Nagell, in particular, is one of the most recognizable faces in the scene and is still active in the underground music scene today. The band is also known for doing only what they feel like doing. However, this also means that their last live performance was over 20 years ago on April 6th, 1996 in Oslo alongside Satyricon!
