However, believe it or not in their early years after forming back in 1981, Mike D and Co. actually played hardcore music before they became one of the most successful hip hop combos of all times. After supporting bands like the Dead Kennedys and Misfits, they started integrating more rap elements into their songs. Their debut LICENSED TO ILL was released in 1986 and was not only the most successful rap album in the 1980s but also the first rap record to hit #1 of the US album charts (also thanks to '(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party!)'.After six other releases the last Beastie Boys album HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE PART TWO came out in 2011. The release had to be postponed a few times because founding member MCA suffered from a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node, sadly which led to his passing back in 2012 - Understandably the band were no more after this tragic loss.
