In Japan, the film has been known for some time, and in Germany, we are still waiting, but there is hope! "The Boy and the Heron" will premiere this fall in several European cinemas.
We have been eagerly awaiting the new film from Studio Ghibli, "The Boy and the Heron" (German: Der Junge und der Reiher), by the famed filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki since July. The animated film premiered on July 14, 2023, in Japanese cinemas and was a great success. Although release timelines for North America were announced fairly quickly, news about cinema releases in European countries has been slow. But now, the film is finally getting closer!

Cinema Release in Austria and Switzerland
First, the anime will debut in Switzerland. In the German-speaking part of the country, a cinema release is now planned for November 23, 2023. It is not yet clear in which language it will be shown. For Austria, there is already information. There, the film is expected to hit cinemas in the winter of 2023/2024, in Japanese with German subtitles and also in a dubbed German version. Accordingly, the film title has also been translated into German. Fans of the imaginative Ghibli films can look forward to a running time of 124 minutes! Unfortunately, there are still no further announcements for Germany, but surely we will not have to wait much longer. After all, the German version will already be released in Austria and is thus ready for German cinemas. We'll keep you updated!

The wait is over! The cinema release date of "The Boy and the Heron" in Germany has finally been announced. On January 9, 2024, the film will be released in both German and the original version with German subtitles in German cinemas. Here too, the film title will be translated into "Der Junge und der Reiher." Now we can really look forward to it!
