This year, Metallica hit the road with their massive M72 World Tour in support of their latest album, 72 Seasons. The tour placed them at No. 9 on the 2024 Top 10 highest-grossing tours list, as reported by Pollstar. With 1,500,311 tickets sold across North America and Europe, the band generated an impressive $179,373,637.40 in total revenue.
Cliff Burnstein from Q Prime commented on the band’s touring cycle:
“We go out every year and we generally play around 25 shows a year worldwide, and it’s not tied to a new album or anything else, so we’re consistent in that regard."
"In any one year, somebody is going out on a new album and starting their cycle, and will always rank higher than we do, because we don’t play as many shows. And that’s by design. We decided collectively for the mental and physical health of the band that this is the best way to tour.”
Taylor Swift at No. 1
As expected, Taylor Swift continued to captivate audiences in 2024 with her The Eras Tour, securing the No. 1 spot, supported by Paramore. Over 5,000,000 tickets were sold, generating a staggering $1,043,421,552 in revenue.
The Top 10 also includes Coldplay, P!nk, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Madonna, bringing together some of the most commercially successful rock and pop artists.
