The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has recently gained momentum with the release of the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. Now, we’re not far off from more movie and series releases—so get your popcorn ready. Here’s what you can expect from Marvel in the summer of 2023, both in theaters and on Disney+!
This year, several sequels from the Marvel Universe are on the agenda. Are you excited for more adventures from your favorite heroes (or villains)? We'll go through the new releases in the order they’re set to appear.
SPIDER-MAN: Across The Spiderverse
Kicking off on June 1st, the Spider-Man saga continues! The first part of this series, Into The Spiderverse, was widely acclaimed and its upcoming sequel follows suit. Unlike traditional live-action films, these animated films are celebrated for their innovative visual style. They combine new CGI techniques with hand-drawn 2D elements, creating a captivating comic book style.
Across The Spiderverse follows Miles Morales as he explores the multiverse, encountering other Spider-People and facing a new villain. The team must unite to eliminate the threat, but internal conflicts arise. Throughout the story, Miles must decide his own path to save the people he loves.
Marvel’s Secret Invasion
Also in June, a new series hits Disney+—it’s been a long wait between Marvel series releases. Secret Invasion, spanning six episodes, focuses on Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who takes on the Skrulls. Here’s the trailer for a first impression!
The Marvels
Scheduled for release on July 27, this film builds on the events of the 2022 series Ms. Marvel. The first installment of Captain Marvel in 2019 is set chronologically earlier, in the 90s. While the predecessor delved into the background of Carol Danvers, this film focuses on the convergence of the Marvels. The powers of Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Captain Monica Rambeau come together—teamwork is essential!
Coming This Fall: Loki Season 2
As summer ends, Marvel's 2023 lineup doesn’t. Set for October 6, the second season of Loki ensures that the God of Mischief will entertain us on Disney+ before Halloween. Thor’s adoptive brother Loki is one of the most popular villains in the Marvel Universe. The first season in 2021 even broke a record on the streaming platform, boasting the most successful series premiere ever, even surpassing WandaVision and The Mandalorian! The anticipation for Season 2 this fall is certainly high.
