Last night in Los Angeles, the 10th annual Game Awards celebrated the best games, adaptations, and much more. The 2024 event showcased this year’s standout games and also treated us to live performances, surprise guests, new game announcements, and trailers. Want to know if your favorites won an award? Let’s dive in!
New Trailer: The Witcher 4
We got the the treat of a first trailer for "The Witcher 4"! This time, Geralt steps aside as the protagonist, making way for Ciri to take center stage as the playable main character. We even get to see a first fierce battle of her against a cruel monster, so let's get straight into the action:
Elden Ring: Night Reign Announced!
"Elden Ring: Night Reign" was announced for 2025! The co-op action-adventure game lets up to three players explore a map inspired by Limgrave, a region from "Elden Ring".
Special Guests & Live Music: From Twenty One Pilots To Ella Purnell
As promised, Twenty One Pilots performed their song “The Line” from the soundtrack of "Arcane" Season 2 live at the event. Snoop Dogg also took the stage with “Thank You” and “Gin and Juice.”
Some familiar faces were spotted in the audience too! Actress Ella Purnell, known for voicing Jinx in "Arcane" and Lucy in "Fallout", was in attendance, for example. The night also celebrated a milestone for PlayStation, which recently marked its 30th(!) anniversary. Ken Kutaragi, the “Father of PlayStation,” was warmly welcomed at the event.
The awards were obviously presented by some big names as well, including none other than Harrison Ford himself!
The Winners Of The Game Awards 2024
Now, onto the highly anticipated awards!
The Game of the Year award for 2024 went to "Astro Bot". "Black Myth: Wukong" couldn’t quite keep up, nor could the remake of "Final Fantasy 7". On top of that, "Astro Bot" also took home awards for Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Family Game - a full package of wins!
The Best Adaptation award didn’t go to "Arcane" this year! Instead, "Fallout" took home the prize. This was certainly a surprise to many, but a major win for the new adaptation. If you haven’t seen the series yet, this is the perfect nudge to dive in!
As expected, "GTA 6" claimed the Most Anticipated Game award, while the Best Community Support award also predictably went to the devoted fans of 2023’s Game of the Year, "Baldur’s Gate 3".
