The San Diego Comic-Con once again served as a platform for exciting announcements. The main highlights were the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU and the new trailer for "Captain America: Brave New World," as well as the return of the Russo brothers to the director's chair, raising expectations for Marvel once again.
Trailer Premiere: Captain America: Brave New World
A new trailer for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ was unveiled at the weekend. Unfortunately, it is not yet available online, but you can watch the first trailer below.
The film follows on from ‘Falcon &The Winter Soldier’ and features Sam Wilson in his established role as Captain America. Faced with an international conflict, he is asked by the President to join the military. Giancarlo Esposito appears as the villain in form of Seth Voelker, the leader of the Serpent Society. While Harrison Ford plays US President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who also embodies his alter ego Red Hulk.
Robert Downey Jr. Returns
One of the biggest surprises was the return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU. In the upcoming Avengers films "Doomsday" and "Secret Wars," he takes on the role of the supervillain Dr. Doom, replacing the main antagonist Kang, whose actor has fallen out of favor due to some controversies. Nevertheless, Kang will still have a small role in the film, though we do not yet know exactly what it will be.
Dr. Doom will be introduced for the first time in the film "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." It remains to be seen if and how Downey Jr.'s new role as Dr. Doom will be connected to his former character Iron Man.
The Russo Brothers Are Back
Another piece of good news is the return of the Russo brothers. They will once again direct the upcoming Avengers films, which promises a return to former glory after the recent less successful films.
