Fans of the Korean boy group BTS have a great reason to celebrate as it has been a full decade since their debut in 2013. A huge event was held in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. On June 17th, about 400,000 A.R.M.Ys were present! Here’s a report on the exciting highlights of the event.
Currently, BTS is on a hiatus, as the members are obliged to serve in the South Korean military. Members Jin and J-Hope are already fulfilling their military duties. Meanwhile, the other idols are focusing on their individual projects. RM, the leader of BTS, released his solo album Indigo in December 2022. Jimin followed in March 2023 with his solo debut Face. The rapper Suga broke a record on Hanteo for the highest number of album sales on the release day with his new album D-Day, selling a total of 1,072,311 copies on April 21st! So, fans don’t have to miss out on new music during BTS’s break.
BTS Birthday Celebration in Seoul
The "BTS 10th Anniversary FESTA" anniversary was celebrated at Han River Park in Seoul. All details were posted on BTS's official Instagram page, from the location map and schedule to merchandise.
Representing the entire group, RM (Kim Nam-joon) was present and spoke to the fans. Naturally, there was also a live performance of his solo songs "Persona" and "Wild Flower". RM said:
“I don’t know when I will sing live again.”
He doesn’t know when he will next sing live, so he was going to give it his all, as he too will eventually have to serve in the military. It was a truly emotional moment for the fans. For A.R.M.Ys from all over the world, it is a very special experience to be able to see their K-Pop idols on stage. Let’s hope that time passes quickly!
A special surprise were calls from Jungkook and V, who both pretended to be fans. The day was crowned with an impressive fireworks display, during which the number “10” was seen high in the sky above the river.
And the festivities in honor of BTS are not over yet! They will continue until June 25th in collaboration between the music label Bighit Entertainment and the city of Seoul. The theme is "BTS Presents Everywhere". The program includes, among other things, exhibitions of BTS outfits and illuminated landmarks like Seoul Tower in the boy group's color; purple. The city's celebration of the seven musicians also relates to their international fame. As the members have captured the hearts of fans worldwide and propelled the K-Pop genre to new heights, Seoul has enjoyed a significant increase in tourism. For South Korea, BTS also means a positive impact on the country's economy.
