Slipknot's fourth studio album is celebrating its anniversary! We are looking back at the era at the end of the 2000s, the song highlights and the characteristics of All Hope Is Gone.

It's been 15 years since the American Nu Metal band Slipknot released their fourth studio album, All Hope Is Gone. The album, released on August 20, 2008, marked an important milestone in the band's career. It had a shorter tracklist than any of its three predecessors and developed Slipknot's sound further once again. It has already been awarded with Platinum in the USA.

What is also special is that it was the last album in the original, classic Slipknot lineup. The bassist Paul Gray died in May 2010, which greatly impacted the remaining band members and the fans. As of late 2013, Joey Jordison, drummer and until then the #1 of the nine band members, was also no longer part of the band. The group's next studio album was not released until 2014, titled The Gray Chapter. Jan Weinberg plays the drums since then, while Alex Venturella plays the bass.

Highlights And Hits Of The All Hope Is Gone Era

The tracklist of All Hope Is Gone features a total of 12 songs, including singles such as "Psychosocial," "Dead Memories" and the popular ballad "Snuff". Each song on the album stands out for its raw energy and dark lyrics that deal with personal struggles and the loss of hope. Slipknot have once again managed to make anger and frustration truly palpable in every song, while creating catchy melodies that immediately get stuck in your ear at the same time. In addition to the typical heavy guitar riffs and aggressive vocals of Corey Taylor, the band also experimented with melodic passages and orchestral arrangements. This gave the album a certain depth and complexity that set it apart from their previous releases. Nevertheless, the clean vocals in particular were inspired by the encouragement they had already received on its predecessor, Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses). While the album received mixed reviews, even longtime fans definitely have some favorite songs from the album.

"Psychosocial" is still one of Slipknot's most popular music videos and also one of the band's most streamed songs on Spotify. Currently, the song has over 500 million hits on the streaming platform.

The New Masks From Back In The Day

Since their beginnings, Slipknot have been known for always performing with masks. The designs vary from album to album and adapt to the corresponding eras. Slipknot also came up with something new for All Hope Is Gone in 2008. Especially the white mask of Corey Taylor is memorable. Unlike the singer's first masks, it is strikingly simple and designed with few details, which makes it look all the more disturbing. Other designs have been more inspired by their predecessors, such as the mask of Mick Thompson, who always chooses a metallic design.

Features like Shawn "Clown" Crahan's clown face remained, of course, although the mask looks more technical than his previous ones and has fewer color accents. Chris Fehn also remained recognizable by his long nose and zipper for a mouth. For many band members, the basic principle was kept. After all, the musicians use the designs to express their personalities and focus on the character of the people behind them. So it is understandable that certain design aspects accompany the musicians for quite a while.

All Hope Is Gone will also accompany us for another 15 years. But for now, the release of Look Outside Your Window is planned for 2024. The songs of this record actually exist since the All Hope Is Gone era, so it's about time for the release. Let's stay tuned!
