The Secret to Yu-Gi-Oh!'s Success
Yu-Gi-Oh! is similar to
One Piece, Dragonball, or
Naruto in that it belongs to the Shōnen manga genre. The main story revolves around a student named Yugi who brings an ancient Pharaoh to life and thereafter shares a body with him. Yu-Gi-Oh! thrives on a high degree of fan identification, which is largely due to the strong
popularity of the trading card game. The format is supported by a strong community that not only wants to watch but also wants to participate in the action.
The first Yu-Gi-Oh! mangas, drawn by Kazuki Takahashi, appeared in
1996 in the famous Shōnen Jump magazine. Initially, the drawing style was very raw and not very child-friendly. That changed over the years. Yu-Gi-Oh! quickly developed into a very popular manga format.
By 2004, 38 issues of the original series were produced. Subsequently, several sequel series were released, drawn by Akira Itō. All series were also adapted into anime series, causing a
