You could say that Weezer are the founding fathers of the pop punk genre, because when lead singer Rivers Cuomo started the band back in 1992, he was a big fan of classic heavy metal, but also loved the Beach Boys. With Weezer, he wanted to combine both genres. One of their first singles, 'Buddy Holly' was well received and still is to this day! The video to that single was even on the Windows 95-CD-Rom! Good times! Despite the fast breakthrough and the success of the first Weezer record THE BLUE ALBUM (1994), later on there were many obstacles in their way: Even though fans still refer to the second Weezer record PINKERTON (1996) as the best release of the band, it didn't reach commercial success. The band pulled out of business and there were even rumors of a complete break up. However (and lucky for us) they didn't give up and later entered the studio with a new bass player in 2000, ready to convince fans and critics again with their self titled album WEEZER whic was released a year later in 2001. Nowadays there's no end in sight! In 2015 Weezer released two new singles and it seems that we can expect the 10th record from the band anytime soon.
