At HBO and in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, several Game Of Thrones/House Of The Dragon spin-offs are in the works. But now it's turning from live-action to animation!

The various spin-off ideas from George R.R. Martin, the author of the famous fantasy book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," and HBO were previously planned as classic live-action series, as was the case with "Game Of Thrones" and "House Of The Dragon." And since both series were extremely successful and still are, why make a change to this strategy? Nevertheless, it has now been announced that the series, including "Nine Voyages," has more potential as an animated series. George Martin recently commented on why he supports this decision.

Why animation?

The spin-off "Nine Voyages" is about a character that you may already know from "House Of The Dragon." We're talking about Lord Corlys, played by Steve Toussaint. He is also known as the "Sea Snake". The experienced and famous sailor from the world of Westeros and beyond explores breathtaking places like Lys, Volantis, Quarth, and many more on his journeys. Due to the many locations, a live-action series would not have been financially realistic.

"Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live action version prohibitively expensive."

- George R.R. Martin

So the many voyages would have exceeded the budget. But with new series like "Blue Eye Samurai" on Netflix, there are great examples of successful animated series. In fact, the "Game Of Thrones" author himself loves this series! He uses it as an opportunity to excite fantasy fans for animation projects like this.

"Even if you don’t normally watch animation, give it a try. It’s terrific."

Is there a release date yet?

Unfortunately, none of HBO's spin-off projects have been officially confirmed. We are hoping for good news and will not miss out on future series, whether they are live-action or animation!
