The best games of 2023 were honored with a Game Award. Find out who the lucky winners are and which live acts performed there!
With the end of the year approaching, the annual Game Awards took place on December 7, 2023. Games from various genres and studios were awarded in 32 categories. There were some titles that were celebrated by fans throughout the year and received multiple nominations. Other titles were nominated but unfortunately did not win an award. You can find out if your favorite game won an award here.
These Are The Game Awards
The Game Awards have been around since 2014, so next year they will celebrate their 10th anniversary! Geoff Keighley is the founder and host of the show, which is livestreamed every year. Not only are all nominated games presented and winners announced, but numerous new games are also announced and performances by musicians on stage are admired. The categories are diverse, ranging from best game for the whole family to best audio design to best game of the year. This way it's exciting troughout the entire evening! It's possible that you will discover familiar personalities such as actors, voice actors, and YouTubers on stage and in the audience. The entire community comes together for these awards!
At the Game Awards 2023, there were also live performances by artists. For example, the band Heilung, who can be heard in the soundtrack of Hellblade 2 - Senua's Saga with their song "In Maidjan", performed on stage. It's certainly an absolute goosebump moment to experience it live!
Another musical contribution was made with a Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth show. And it was a truly emotional vocal performance complete with orchestra. The theme song "No Promises to Keep", composed by Nobuo Uematsu, was sung by American singer Loren Allred.
But that's not all. The stage also featured the fictional band Old Gods of Asgard, known from the Alan Wake games. Behind it is a real metal band called Poets of the Fall from Finland. They performed the track "Herald of Darkness" live and together with the cast of the Alan Wake games, they created an unforgettable musical performance! Alan Wake's actor Ilkka Villi showed off his dance moves, and his voice actor Matthew Porretta and David Harewood (Warlin Door) also took part.
These Are The Lucky Winners
If we can spoil you for a moment, we can also tell you which games won the most awards this year. As a huge success and fan favorite, Baldur's Gate 3 can take home the most awards by far! In six categories, the fantasy role-playing game reached the top, including "Best Community Support" and "Best RPG". Neil Newbon, who voiced Astarion, also won an award for best performance. It's no surprise that the last big award of the evening, "Game of the Year," also went to Baldur's Gate 3!
Alan Wake 2 also did well, winning three awards in categories such as "Best Narrative". Well-deserved!
Of course, Nintendo also won a few awards because this year saw the release of not only Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Pikmin 4 but also the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom!
HoYoverse secured the award for best mobile game, as after their international success with the open-world game Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail was released in 2023!
Gaming Streamers were also honored with nominations, although only one person could win the award for "Content Creator of the Year". And that was Ironmouse! As a popular V-tuber, she can be seen on Twitch regularly and, of course, prepared a video message for the award show.
