The History of Hard Rock – Revolution of Rock’n’Roll

In the early 60s, the paths of Rock’n’Roll were considered worn out. Musicians sought new impulses and began to revamp the then-standard style. They experimented with more aggressive guitar sounds and brought the drums to the forefront. A new, more provocative style in both music and lyrics emerged. Bands like The Who and The Rolling Stones are considered key pioneers. Within a few years, a new scene emerged, whose followers enthusiastically celebrated the musical revolution. Groups like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, or Queen made headlines worldwide and filled large concert halls across the globe. Alice Cooper and Kiss set new standards for stage shows and entertainment in the mid-70s. Towards the end of the decade, AC/DC released two of the most important Hard Rock albums in history with LET THERE BE ROCK (1977) and HIGHWAY TO HELL (1979). From a German perspective, the Scorpions from Hanover made a significant impact. By the early 90s, Hard Rock was at its peak. Bands like Aerosmith and Guns N’Roses dominated the Billboard Charts. With the rise of the Grunge wave and the subsequent Punk Revival, Hard Rock lost some of its popularity. In the new millennium, however, the mother of all hard music genres experienced a revival. Groups like Wolfmother and Airbourne embraced the core values of Hard Rock and sparked a retro wave that continues to this day.
