The ongoing strikes in the film industry are causing delays for several titles whose release dates had been firmly set. Some films planned for 2023 will now not premiere until 2024. Here's what you need to know about the affected releases.
The strike by actors and screenwriters in the USA continues, affecting numerous film productions in Hollywood. Consequently, Warner Bros. has had to decide to push back several movie releases by several months. Some of these releases are highly anticipated by fans, making the extended wait a frustrating prolongation. In some cases, trailers had already promoted the original release dates. Let's take a look at which films are specifically impacted.
Which movie releases are affected?
Unfortunately, at the top of the list is the second part of the "Dune" series, whose first part premiered in September 2021 in Germany to great success. The sequel was set to release on November 2, 2023, but this has now been delayed until March 15, 2024, in the USA. Accordingly, it will likely also be mid-March in Germany.
Also affected is "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire," which was scheduled for March 15, 2024, and has thus also been postponed. It is now expected to premiere on April 12, 2024.
Fans of The Lord of the Rings will also have to be much more patient. The animated film "The War of the Rohirrim" has been pushed from its planned release date of April 12, 2024, to December 13, 2024. That's quite a wait still ahead for all of us!
However, there are also movies that are planned to be released as scheduled. This includes "Wonka," the reimagined story of Willy Wonka, known from the children's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." You can watch this film in cinemas starting December 15, 2023. The release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" is still set for December 20, 2023, and the drama "The Color Purple" is planned for December 25, 2023. So despite all the delays, we are not left empty-handed this year. A visit to the cinema is still worth it!
