Black Butler fans can look forward to a new season of the anime adaptation next year, as announced on Twitter on July 4. A trailer for it has already been released by the streaming platform Crunchyroll. More info can be found in this article!
The anime series is based on the manga Black Butler (jap. Kuroshitsuji), written and drawn by Yana Toboso. The manga series has been published since 2006 and is still ongoing with 32 volumes currently published. It is popular among manga fans and has sold over 30 million copies. The anime adaptation first aired in 2008, got a second season in 2010 and another sequel followed in 2014 with Black Butler: Book of Circus.
In terms of content, the manga is about young Ciel Phantomhive, the son and orphan of a wealthy family in 19th century England. His parents died in a fire, after which he himself was kidnapped. In his hatred for the kidnappers, Ciel manages to summon a demon. With him he makes a binding contract. In the guise of a butler named Sebastian Michaelis, the demon must obey Ciel and protect him as long as the boy takes revenge on the thugs. Once this is put into action, the demon receives Ciel's soul in return.
The series basically follows the concept of the manga, but especially season II deviated strongly from the plot of the manga. The third season, however, followed the plot of the manga again. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the content of season 4 will continue!

When Will Black Butler Season 4 Be Released?
The new season was actually announced during the Anime Expo (AX) in Los Angeles. There was a panel of Crunchyroll, where the news were made public. A surprise for all fans, because a sequel has long been awaited by many, but no one really believed in it.
It is known now that the sequel will be produced in a different animation studio than the previous ones, specifically in the studio CloverWorks. The first seasons, on the other hand, were created at A-1 Pictures. However, this does not mean that everything will be new and unknown: The casting brings back the voice actors of Ciel and Sebastian. So Maaya Sakamoto will once again voice the character Ciel Phantomhive, while Daisuke Ono will voice the butler Sebastian Michaelis.
The fourth season will kick off on Japanese television in 2024. Also, fans can watch the series on Crunchyroll in simulcast!
