When Green Day released their groundbreaking album DOOKIE in 1994, the music scene went wild: Along with The Offspring, Green Day ushered in the famous Punk Revival, and DOOKIE has sold around 20 million copies to date. Due to consistently strong outputs and spectacular live shows, Green Day is considered one of the most sought-after rock bands on the planet.

The Most Successful Punk Rock Band in the World

With DOOKIE, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool achieved an unimaginable success in 1994. While their colleagues from The Offspring mainly committed to fast and energetic skate punk, Green Day made no secret of their very pop-heavy punk sound. Hits like "Basket Case" or "When I Come Around" were on heavy rotation on radio stations. Inspired by the trio from Berkeley, California, other bands like Sum 41 or Blink 182 entered the market and made pop punk the definitive soundtrack of the '90s. Green Day took interesting sonic experiments on their follow-up albums INSOMNIA, NIMROD, and WARNING but couldn’t initially match the success of their past. It wasn't until AMERICAN IDIOT in 2004 that the band reached another milestone. The album sold over 11 million copies in its first year – an astonishing success considering the declining sales of physical records at the time. With the albums 21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN, UNO!, DOS!, and TRE!, Green Day solidified their position as the most commercially successful punk rock band in the world.

A wild drumbeat, hard-rocking guitar, and Billy Joe Armstrong's raspy vocals – Green Day songs are based on an energetic mix that invites dancing and moshing. Despite various experiments, the trio has always stayed true to themselves. Five Grammy Awards, seven MTV Awards, two ECHOs, and their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 highlight the band's significance to the rock genre.
