Mangas and animes are your world? Then you've probably heard of the Death Note series. Light Yagami is the main character who can kill people with a notebook he found. This has consequences. Soon, Light Yagami is pursued by the police, particularly by the investigators L and Near, and he also brings about changes in society. The series is now available not only as a Japanese comic but also as a TV series and live-action film.
The hero of the Death Note series comes from the pen of illustrator Takeshi Obata, whose works have already been awarded numerous prizes. Between 2003 and 2006, the manga magazine Shōnen Jump published weekly individual chapters of the story about the 17-year-old Light Yagami. Full volumes were then released by Shueisha Publishing. For successful mangas, a film adaptation is not far behind. In 2006, the first Death Note film hit the screens of Japanese cinemas, followed by the second live-action film in the same year. By 2008, Warner Brothers had acquired the rights to produce another film. The finished work was released on Netflix in 2017. In this film, the protagonist is named Light Turner, and the screenplay was written by Charley Parlapanides, Vlas Parlapanides, and Jeremy Slater. Adam Wingard, known for Blair Witch and You’re Next, directed the film. The main role is played by Nat Wolff, who also appeared in The Fault in Our Stars and Paper Towns.
