Tomorrow is the day, and the big spook can begin. To get the most out of the Halloween mood, today we present you with 10 extremely fitting, eerie music videos!
Not only do the dark lyrics and themes of metal songs lend themselves perfectly to creepy music videos. Some artists actively draw inspiration from horror films and let their creativity run wild while filming. Today, we introduce you to ten successful works of this kind!
1. Slipknot - Killpop
Slipknot doesn't just have one music video that could make this list. Titles like “Spit it Out” or “The Devil In I” would also be perfect for Halloween - but this year we choose “Killpop”, a quieter and much less aggressive song than usual from Slipknot. Corey Taylor's clean singing and the performance of the two black-and-white girls in the video create a particularly unsettling atmosphere.
2. In This Moment - The Purge
There's new music from In This Moment! In the past, songs like “Big Bad Wolf” fit perfectly into a Halloween playlist. Now there's more with the music video for “The Purge”, which was released this year. The single was a precursor to the album Godmode, which was released just a few days ago on October 27, 2023!
3. Ghost - Square Hammer
Ghost is regularly inspired by horror films. Several of their album covers are reminiscent of titles like “Nosferatu” or “Salem’s Lot”. The music video for “Square Hammer” from the EP “Popestar” includes scenes from the iconic film “Nosferatu”. Add to that the unique performance by Papa Emeritus III, which makes the song unforgettable.
4.Tool - Schism
For those who enjoy a good scare and love progressive metal, “Schism” is a must-watch this Halloween. The single from the album Lateralus continues the tradition of not featuring any band members in their videos. What you see instead, you can find out with a click.
5. Rob Zombie - Dragula
Rob Zombie has created a timeless metal Halloween hit with “Dragula”. No doubt, it’s a song you can listen to over and over without it getting old. You can headbang and even dance to it!
6. Murderdolls - Dead in Hollywood
Few bands are as dedicated to the theme of horror as Murderdolls. Although the American group led by frontman Wednesday 13 and former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has been inactive since 2013, their songs can be pulled out every October. “Dead in Hollywood” is just one of many tracks that can enrich your Halloween playlist!
7. Wednesday 13 - Good Day to be a Bad Guy
Moving on to the solo projects of Wednesday 13. The musician has been releasing one horror album after another since the 90s with various bands. His first solo album came out in 2005, and since then he has never strayed from his path. In 2022, Horrifier was released, bringing us the music video “Good Day To Be A Bad Guy”. But of course, nothing stops you from checking out his entire discography!
8. Ice Nine Kills - Meat & Greet
Ice Nine Kills is also known for producing great videos for the spooky time of the year. But you might not know “Meat & Greet” yet, as it was released just two weeks ago! The single is from their new album Welcome To Horrorwood: Under Fire and invites you on a metalcore journey of a different kind.
9. Motionless In White - Necessary Evil
With Motionless In White, we look back at the music video for “Necessary Evil” from their album Graveyard Shift, which itself carries the best Halloween title. Without question, there should be a cake like in this video at every party.
10. New Year’s Day - Vampyre
The American alternative band New Year’s Day is finally back with new music! Since 2019, it has been relatively quiet around the group, but we couldn't withhold the new single “Vampyre” from you. Definitely give it a listen if you haven't heard it yet. After all, it was released just in time for Halloween Prime Time this October!
