After the huge success of the first season of One Piece on Netflix, it was only a matter of time before the sequel was announced. But the fact that manga creator Eiichirō Oda himself is making the announcement is a great surprise!

On August 31, the new live action series of One Piece launched on the streaming platform and immediately broke the records of Stranger Things and Wednesday. Even anime and manga fans of the adventurous pirate story are embracing the series. This is perhaps the real record, since live action adaptations of anime have been received quite poorly so far and could not convince most fans. This time it's different.

"What did I think about the Netflix One Piece Live Action? Well, it was actually really good."

- Joey Bizinger (aka The Anime Man)

But most importantly, the Netflix series can bring One Piece to the attention of new audiences who might not otherwise be into anime.

If you are someone who watches reviews on YouTube, you will have found numerous reviews about One Piece on the platform. As you'd expect, all channels that cover topics such as movies, series and anime have dealt with it. Reaction videos and reviews can be found everywhere. It's a good way to get an overview of Season 1 if you haven't yet approached the live action series.

What Do We Know About Season 2?

Netflix recently released a video message with news about One Piece on YouTube and social media. They write about it:

"It fills us with great joy to give you this message directly from Oda-Sensei."

And indeed, if you watch the video, you'll hear the voice of the artist who brought One Piece to life. The author's message is brought to you by the tele snail, which also made a few appearances in the first season.

Not only does Oda thank his fans around the world in the video, but more importantly he shares these news:

"Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show!"

A second season is confirmed and being worked on! However, it will be a while before we can finally see it. There is currently no release date.

How Does The Storyline Continue?

Starting from here: Warning, spoilers!

After the first season ended with the "Arlong Park Arc," pretty much the entire "East Blue Saga" from the manga has already been covered. So we'll continue with the "Arabasta Saga", in which numerous new adventures await Luffy, Zoro, Nami and their new companions. Luffy's big plan in Season 1 is to finally reach the Grand Line so he can search for the One Piece there. In season 2, we can expect to finally reach the Grand Line.

In fact, at the end of his announcement, Oda hints at a character from One Piece who does not yet appear in the first season. With a "great doctor" he means Tony Chopper, a future crew member of the Straw Hat Pirates. So we definitely should have him to look forward to! In the manga, he first appears in the "Drum Island Arc".

Also, in the last episode of Season 1, there's a hint that introduces the character Smoker: a naval officer that Ruffy and his friends are likely to meet pretty soon.

From a giant whale to new crew members and characters like "Sir Crocodile," there will be a lot to discover. And it continues to be exciting to see how these elements translate into live action!
