Metal And Mud: Documentary On Wacken Camping 2023

The Wacken Open Air 2023 was quite literally a washout. Numerous festival-goers set up their camps in the muddy fields, while others were later not allowed onto the site at all. And particularly this year, the camping at Wacken was scrutinized and documented!

The Wacken Open Air 2023 was quite literally a washout. Numerous festival-goers set up their camps in the muddy fields, while others were later not allowed onto the site at all. And particularly this year, the camping at Wacken was scrutinized and documented!

Without the many helping hands and vehicles from the Wacken community, many cars and motorhomes would not have made it through the mud this year. Nonetheless, the festival was able to go ahead, albeit not with the full number of visitors. On-site, however, were Friso Richter and Lukas Lowack from the series "Camping-Check". This format by the Hessischer Rundfunk is available in the ARD media library and features journalist Friso Richter exploring everything about outdoor and camping. The fifteenth episode was dedicated to the Wacken Open Air. Naturally, it was in the muddiest year of Wacken history!

The Camping Check: Wacken Festival Camping

In forty-five minutes, Friso Richter and his cameraman take extensive time to explore the mud in the fields, examine various camps, and interview attendees of Germany's largest metal festival. Of course, there's also a beer or two along the way and many warm acquaintances made. See for yourself by watching the full episode here!
