It's 2001, somewhere in Chicago: To take a break from their hardcore bands, bassist Pete Wentz and guitarist Joe Trohman start a pop punk side project and name it "Fall Out Boy." The side project quickly becomes more, and by their second album, FROM UNDER THE CORK TREE (2005), the band joins the ranks of My Chemical Romance and Panic! At The Disco as stars of the "Emo" era.
After the even more successful INFINITY ON HIGH (2007) and FOLIE À DEUX (2008), which received mixed reviews from fans and critics, Fall Out Boy announced a hiatus in 2009 to "take the pressure off" and focus on other projects. Four years later, Patrick Stump and Pete Wentz reunited to write again - during the break, the frontman had lost over 30 kilos, and Pete Wentz had gone through a divorce with pop star Ashlee Simpson and another therapy stint (he had attempted to take his own life with pills in 2005). The band's goal for the reunion was to reinvent themselves and their sound, which they achieved with SAVE ROCK AND ROLL (2013). However, by this album, they had largely moved away from their original pop punk-emo sound with few exceptions.
