Metallica, Paramore, and several other Rock and Alternative artists have won awards at the 2024 Grammys. Find out the details here!
Yesterday, on February 4th, the annual Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles. There are several categories honoring Rock and Metal artists too, with awards given for best performances, best songs and best albums. The nominations looked promising already, but now we finally know who actually took home a prize (or even multiple)!
Metal at the Grammys
Metal is indeed a staple of the show, as there are a few categories specifically for the field of "Rock, Metal & Alternative Music." In the category of "Best Metal Performance," nominees included Slipknot, Ghost, and Spiritbox. However, the win went to Metallica, whose new album 72 Seasons was released in 2023.
Paramore Win Twice
Last year, Paramore released their album This Is Why; their last with their current label. This record earned them two Grammy Awards in the categories of "Best Rock Album" and "Best Alternative Music Performance." However, the band was not present in LA to accept the awards - even though it was their first win at the Grammys as a band. Haley Williams and Taylor York had previously each won an award for the song "Ain't It Fun" in the category of "Best Rock Song."
More Rock 'n' Roll Prizes
Of course, those weren't all the categories. boygenius also took home awards, including "Best Alternative Music Album" and "Best Rock Song". The award for the "Best Music Video" went to The Beatles for their song "I'm Only Sleeping." Although the song is from 1966, the band re-released their compilation 1962–1966 in 2023. The song is included on it - it was given a new mix in 2022 and received a new music video as well. Additionally, the title "Wagging Tongue (Wet Leg Remix)" won in the category of "Best Remixed Recording". The song "Wagging Tongue" was released by Depeche Mode on their new album Memento Mori in 2023.
News From Taylor Swift And Barbie
There's more news to mention as well. Even in the world of Rock and Metal, there are countless Taylor Swift fans to be found. All Swifties can rejoice now, because Taylor actually broke a record at this year's Grammy Awards! Her album Midnights, released in 2022 and then twice again as the 3am Edition in 2022 and as Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition) in 2023, won "Album of the Year". This makes her the first artist ever to win this award four times. A true reason to celebrate. That's why there was also big news: Taylor Swift has announced a new album! It will be called THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT and will be released on April 19th, 2024. You can check out the exciting announcement here:
Additionally, "Barbie" continues to enjoy success. There was an award for Barbie The Album, which features all the songs from the 2023 movie hit! But the songs were also individually nominated, so Billie Eilish won a Grammy as well, for "What Was I Made For?".
