The Finns from Children of Bodom are undoubtedly among the best that modern metal of the late nineties and early 2000s had to offer. Combining influences from the giants
Emperor and
Death, the quintet from the serene Espoo created their own unique, unmistakable style. The melodic death metal of these guys found fans all over the world, making them, alongside bands like
Nightwish,
HIM, and
Amorphis, one of the
biggest rock bands from Finland. Children of Bodom have become a cult band, as has their

Many Albums, Many Paths, Many Experiments
The band's first two albums, SOMETHING WILD and HATEBREEDER, were a huge hit in the scene, winning numerous fans and critics' hearts. Their meteoric rise continued in the 2000s with FOLLOW THE REAPER, HATECREW DEATHROLL, and ARE YOU DEAD YET?. The three subsequent albums were generally received more critically by fans and the press. In 2015, they returned to their former strength with I WORSHIP CHAOS. The band's final album, HEXED, released in 2019, once again united fans and critics, leaving no doubt about the Finns' quality.
Unfortunately, Children of Bodom disbanded the same year.
The Mozart of Melodic Death Metal
While Children of Bodom consisted exclusively of virtuoso musicians, one name stood out in particular:
singer, lead guitarist, and mastermind Alexi Laiho. He was just of age when the first album was released. His guitar playing influenced countless musicians and inspired many imitators. The idol of many metal fans
passed away in 2020 due to the consequences of his years of excessive alcohol consumption. Alexi Laiho was only 41 years old.
