I wanted a band that would be like David Bowie and the Sex Pistols thrown in a blender with Black Sabbath"- This is what lead singer Nikki Sixx said about the forming of his band back in 1981 - A combination which was the origin of one of 80's biggest Heavy Metal bands: Mötley Crüe (the Metal umlauts are inspired by the band's favourite brand of beer aka Germany's "Löwenbräu").
Band history
Even before Mötley Crüe were musically successful, they caught the world's attention with various scandals - Some of which were even stage-managed by the band, like when the management started a rumor of a bomb threat at one of the band's shows. With records such as SHOUT AT THE DEVIL (1983), THEATRE OF PAIN (1985) or DR. FEELGOOD (1989), it's safe to say there was always talk about the bands love of alcohol, party, sex and motorcycles.
In1999 drummer Lee left the band and was replaced by Randy Castillo, who sadly even before his first tour was diagnosed with cancer and later died in 2002. Shortly after the band went on a break, several members dedicated themselves to solo projects. Finally in 2004 they reunited for a tour and the compilation album RED, WHITE & CRÜE, which consisted of their favourite songs. Four years later SAINTS OF LOS ANGELES followed, which remains as their last record ever. After a huge world tour they played their final show on December 31st 2015.
