Prime Video has finally released an official teaser trailer for the second season of "The Rings of Power". The continuation of the The Lord of the Rings series will premiere on August 29, 2024, on Prime Video! Fans of the story can look forward to some exciting series nights this summer. Although the series had a slow start and faced much criticism from Tolkien fans, it did not impact the decision to continue the series. You can watch what happens next below!
Plot: What Happens In Season 2?
As fans of the series and Tolkien's books surely know, "The Rings of Power" takes place before the events of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings". The plot is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s "The Silmarillion", which his son Christopher Tolkien published after his father's death. The book narrates the entire creation story of Tolkien's fantasy world and the history of the First and Second Ages. "The Rings of Power" is set in the Second Age and follows main characters like Galadriel and Elrond, who were already battling Sauron’s darkness back then.
In the second season, the series lives up to its name. Sauron is working on his dark plans of dominion and intends to control the kingdoms with the Rings of Power. Galadriel, Elrond, and their allies resist. Yet, even though he stands without an army, the future Dark Lord is very cunning…
Casting In The Second Season
We can let you know right away that many characters and actors from Season 1 will be returning. Galadriel continues to be portrayed by Morfydd Clark, Elrond by Robert Aramayo, and Sophia Nomvete as Disa and Maxim Baldry as Isildur will be back, among many other familiar faces. However, new characters will also be introduced in Season 2. These include the venerable Elf Círdan and Galadriel’s husband Celeborn. And there's been a recasting: Adar will no longer be played by Joseph Mawle (known from Game of Thrones) but by Sam Hazeldine (The Witcher, Peaky Blinders).
