Halloween time is approaching - and for horror fans, it's basically already here. There's probably no better way to get ready for the scariest night of the year than to watch a series of horror movies. We've put together a list of 10 horror movies, some of which will make you feel nostalgic, while others will call for a trip to the cinema. Classics, of course, can't be missing, but new adaptations are also included. Grab your favorite blanket and get cozy!
1. The Nun 2
"The Nun" is a film from the popular "Conjuring" series, which came out in 2018 and is currently getting a second part. It focuses on the demon Valak from "The Conjuring 2," who appears in the guise of a nun. If the big screen is your thing, now's your chance! "The Nun 2" has been in theaters since September 8, and it's your perfect introduction to the horror season.
2. Insidious
"Insidious: The Red Door" also just ran in theaters. This is the fifth film in the "Insidious" series, which was brought to life by director James Wan in 2010. With the fascinating ability of astral journey, a demon is drawn in by a child. Now it must be driven out again. Maybe you don't know the first few movies yet; then you have now found a week's worth of entertainment!
3. The Conjuring
Of course, if you love ghost movies, the aforementioned film series "The Conjuring" is always worth a movie night. Families are haunted, evil seems to be roaming their homes and ultimately there appears to be no way out. Experts Lorraine and Ed Warren are called in to put an end to the haunting. But not only part 1 "The Conjuring" to part 3 "The Devil Made Me Do It" offer you suspense without end. The Conjuring universe also includes other films, including the three parts of "Annabelle" and the film "The Curse of La Llorona". This should give you plenty of input throughout the month of October!
4. Friday the 13th
The title "Friday the 13th" has gotten a lot of attention again in recent years, mainly because of the video game. Even though this is now being taken off the market (the publisher's license is expiring), it has thrilled numerous gamers. It's based on the 1980 horror film of the same name, directed by Sean S. Cunningham. There were several sequels and in 2009 Michael Bay produced a remake with director Marcus Nispel. Nevertheless, the original film maintains its horror charm as the first to unleash Jason Voorhees upon humanity.
5. A Nightmare On Elm Street
An absolute horror classic created by director Wes Craven in 1984. The film tells the story of Freddy Krueger, a serial killer who haunts his victims in their dreams. The movie "A Nightmare On Elm Street" was already a huge success at the time and helped the character Freddy achieve his cult status in the horror scene. The nostalgia factor alone is a reason to watch the movie again on a movie night with friends!
6. The Ring
When you think of "The Ring," you might immediately think back to the parody films "Scary Movie", either laughing or cringing. The 2002 film revolves around a mysterious videotape that supposedly kills anyone who watches it. A journalist sets out to solve the mystery and finds herself in danger as a result.
7. IT
Famous author Stephen King has created numerous masterpieces of the horror genre and many of his books have been adapted as movies. "It" is among his most famous works. And even though there was already a film adaptation in 1990, the two-part version of 2017 and 2019 is the one that is really celebrated. Maybe you've even seen the films in theaters. If so, now is the perfect time to revive the hype!
8. Sleepy Hollow
This title will especially appeal to Tim Burton fans. 1999's "Sleepy Hollow" stars Johnny Depp, as is so often the case with Tim Burton's works. It also stars "Christina Ricci" and Christopher Walken, who make the headless horseman experience a successful horror adventure!
9. The Grudge
The film "The Grudge" was directed by Takashi Shimizu and came out in 2004. It takes us back to curses and ghosts that haunt a certain house. The original film (again, there are several sequels and remakes) has a very dark flair and lets you fully immerse yourself in the tragic plot. Will the ghost's grudge be defeated in the end? You'll have to find that out for yourself.
10. Halloween
We end our list with the ultimate movie for your Halloween party! "Halloween" is the third movie in the trio of horror classics. It's over 40 years old now - it was released in 1978 and has been thrilling numerous classic horror fans ever since. Looking back, of course, the film contains many cliché elements, but that makes it a real showpiece of its time!
