The albums of Callejon couldn't be more different and diverse, yet they consistently reflect the character of the band. Raw screams, K.I.Z. features, and German Rock covers: the experiments are endless. From their first releases in 2006 to today, we have selected five records by the Metalcore group from the Ruhr area. It's time to see if your personal favorite is among them!
Videodrom
We start with Callejon's groundbreaking work Videodrom, released in 2010. The tracks "Sommer, Liebe, Kokain", "Kinder der Nacht" and the title track "Videodrom" are surely stuck in the head of every fan from that era! It was their first album to make it into the German album charts after their initial releases Willkommen im Beerdigungscafé and Zombieactionhauptquartier. Their reputation in the Metalcore scene also grew with this record. The catchy riffs and melodic passages between Bastian Sobtzick's screams still make you nostalgic when listening to the album today. However, the band was still at the beginning of their career with this one. What followed afterwards was probably unexpected by many.
Man Spricht Deutsch
Three years later, a different kind of album was released with Man Spricht Deutsch. Remaining true to their Metalcore and Post-Hardcore sound, Callejon took on a series of the most well-known German songs ever and created a cover album. With "Schrei Nach Liebe" by Die Ärzte, "Durch den Monsun" by Tokio Hotel, and "MFG" by Die Fantastischen Vier, just a few of these hits are mentioned. This was well received in the German charts as shown by its position at number 7. If everyone knows the songs, then everyone can sing along and really get into it live - especially when adorned with breakdowns and Metal shouts this time around.
Wir Sind Angst
This album owes its character not only to its catchy melodies and moshpit sound but especially to its angry, powerful lyrics. A lot of emotions and thoughts are processed here, both in the title track "Wir sind Angst" just like in songs like "Ich lehne leidenschaftlich ab" and "Krankheit Mensch". And then there's also the fan-favorite "Dunkelherz" on this 2015 record.
Fandigo
The follow-up album could not be more different from the intense outcry of Wir Sind Angst. Fandigo from 2017 holds back on screams and focuses mainly on electronic elements. The atmospheric melodies can perfectly capture the dark to hopeless mood of several songs, whether it's "Das Gelebte Nichts" or "Mein Gott ist aus Glas". Callejon still have no fear of change!
Hartgeld im Club
In 2019, the guys returned to the concept of a cover album once again. But this time they took numerous German rap and pop artists whose songs they put into their typical Callejon style. Of course, their long-time feature colleagues K.I.Z. are included with "Urlaub fürs Gehirn". And even tracks that metal fans might know are included such as "Palmen aus Plastik" by Bonez MC and RAF Camora and "Willst du" by Alligatoah. In addition, new songs were presented that Callejon wrote in the style of the album, featuring German rappers Antifuchs and Pilz on "Hartgeld im Club", as well as K.I.Z. and Ice-T in the third part of their song series "Porn from Spain". The album landed at number 5 on the German album charts and doesn't let any track get boring.
