It’s time to delve into the latest releases in the anime world. As usual, you can find both hugely popular titles and some lesser-known gems in our lineup. Here’s what you need to watch and other shows that might catch your interest!

Many of us grew up with series like Sailor Moon and Naruto, and timeless films from Studio Ghibli such as “Spirited Away” - and today, we are just as captivated by the genre as ever. So let’s look at the very latest releases and get ready to binge!

1. Jujutsu Kaisen - Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen is undoubtedly one of the most sought-after anime and manga series of our time. The Shonen manga by Gege Akutami has been published in Japan since 2018 and in Germany since 2019. The first season of the anime, produced by Studio Mappa, debuted in 2020 on Crunchyroll in its German version. Both the manga and the series have enjoyed immense popularity for years - Season 2 has been eagerly awaited by fans. And since July 6, 2023, the first episodes are airing. Unfortunately, you'll face several weeks' pause in August before it finally continues with the "Shibuya Incident" arc at the end of the month. This is an absolute must-watch for this summer!

The plot of the first season follows high school student Yuji Itadori, who joins his school's Occult Club. His clubmates find a mysterious object - cursed and attracting numerous demons. To stand a chance against these dark creatures, Yuji swallows the object: a finger from the King of Curses himself. Yuji gains some power to fight, but he now shares his body with the cursed spirit Sukuna, making him a tremendous threat. To avoid being killed on the spot, Yuji must make himself useful.

2. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War (Part 2)

The popular series Bleach is also based on a manga series, in this case by Tite Kubo. The first anime adaptation debuted in 2004 and initially ran until 2012, spanning over 300 episodes! An anime comeback was announced in 2020 and aired in 2022. This summer, longtime and new Bleach fans can enjoy Part 2 of this project, which covers the final arc of the manga series. Since July 8, you can continue watching - so catch up on everything you might have missed!

3. Bungo Stray Dogs - Season 5

Stray Dogs is an action series that has also been adapted into a light novel. The manga by Kafka Asagiri has been running since 2012, while the first season of the anime aired in 2016. The German translation of the manga has sold over 200,000 copies. It features so-called Armed Detectives with supernatural abilities who deal with incidents too dangerous for the police. Orphan Atsushi Nakajima is picked up by these fighters and taken in. He is expected to assist them in the future!

While we have some must-watch new releases like Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach, there are also many other new releases that might have flown under your radar. So here’s a small selection of genre newcomers from our Anime Summer 2023.

4. Dark Gathering

While not many horror animes have been hugely successful, we’d still like to introduce you to a title from this genre. “Dark Gathering” has been airing since July 10, 2023, and has so far received a rating of 7.48 on MyAnimeList.net. The series could be promising for horror fans among you. Why not give it a try?

5. Reborn as a Vending Machine

You can hardly escape Isekai animes these days. When creativity runs wild, the ideas for this subgenre can be quite outlandish. Isekai translates to “another world” in English. Thus, this title should not be missed: Reborn as a Vending Machine. Since July 5, this title is online. It’s certainly a genre concept that you might love or hate. Maybe just check out the trailer:
