Dead Kennedys: With such a band name controversies in America were inevitable for this band. Funnily enough the hardcore punk band which includes lead singer Jello Biafra didn't actually have anything against the Kennedy clan and only wanted to express the "end of the American dream". After a girl bought their record FRANKENCHRIST, her parents complained because of the inserted poster which was beautifully named "Penis Landscape" - So controversy was never too far away from The Dead Kennedys who even had to go to court because of the former back in 1986 (A case which was later dismissed due to lack of evidence).
Those controversies also were the reason why the fans loved the Dead Kennedys so much. With songs like 'Nazi Punks fuck off!' or 'Moral Majority' they were the spokesmen of a whole generation. Today, more than 35 years after their beginning, the Dead Kennedys are more adapted. They even play festivals that are sponsored by commercial giants like Coca Cola - Something that had been unimaginable in the years before. Even if you're more a fan of the old Kennedys, it's undeniable that their classic merch lives on forever...
