    Official Behemoth Merch

Loud, critical of religion, and always very provocative – that’s how the death metal band Behemoth presents itself. The name comes from Jewish and Christian mythology, where Behemoth is defined as a monster sent to Earth to punish humans. In demonology, Behemoth is a gluttonous demon. The band of the same name was founded in 1991 in Gdańsk by the current lead singer of the band – Adam Michał Darski – alias Nergal. Nergal released the first albums with his instrumentalists under the name Baphomet, and at that time, the music style was still leaning towards black metal.

From Baphomet To Behemoth: The Success Story

Behemoth’s sound is reminiscent of music by Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, and Immortal. In their almost thirty-year band history, Behemoth has continually reinvented itself. This has included departures and changes in Behemoth’s members. Since 2004, after some upheavals, the band has consisted of Patryk Dominik “Seth” Sztyber, Tomasz “Orion” Wróblewski, Zbigniew Robert “Inferno” Promiński, and of course, Adam Michał Darski. Behemoth has also continuously evolved in terms of content. The 1992 demo “The Return of the Northern Moon” featured mainly satanic lyrics, while “...From the Pagan Vastlands” also delved into Scandinavia and the history of the Vikings. All this, of course, was not without a good dose of provocation, because – as Nergal himself says, that is the goal of his music – provocation and shock. In 2004, with the album Demigod, they embarked on a musical experiment with philosophical lyrics and themes related to Egyptian culture. Even within the death metal scene, the band is controversially discussed and has made enemies among conservative and religious people, primarily due to their constant change of focus. The National Socialist Black Metal scene in Poland (NSBM) accuses Behemoth of betraying their own values.

Betrayal or not – Behemoth can look back on a large fan base that regularly attends their concerts and festivals. The band tours internationally and plays in Poland, Lithuania, and Estonia as well as in Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Ireland, and Germany. In the fan shop, both Behemoth albums and Behemoth merchandise products are available, including their own craft beer “Wolf of Siberia.”
